16 | Noah’s Coffee Challenge: Grow your Asking Muscle

I asked for 10% off my coffee.

“Wait what the -?”

Yeah, those were my first thoughts as well.

In the Million Dollar Weekend, Noah Kagan challenges you to buy a coffee.

Ask for 10% off…

And then shut up.

Silence. Confused faces. Judgy eyebrows staring violently at you from all angles.

At least that’s what I imagined would happen.

The whole point of the challenge is to exercise your asking muscle.

Specifically, things that are hard to ask for, and

designed for rejection.

Why?

Because afterwards, you’ll realise that thoughts of rejection are…

just thoughts. They have no power.

You’ll also feel a lot more comfortable asking people to pay you for a business idea you’ve spent a day on.

(More on that later).

Now, my coffee challenge went down a lot differently.

Against all odds, I got the 10% off.

The cafe manager was certainly confused.

He even asked where I was from.

(Perhaps he meant, “What kind of birthplace has instilled you with such ridiculous audacity!?”)

I replied candidly, “I’m from here.”

Shockingly, he gave me 10% off my $5 piccolo.

(Here’s the interaction on camera).

As I marched out the cafe, I felt enlivened in conquering the challenge.

But seconds later I realised, I may have *over* conquered it.

I still needed to get rejected!

(This was vital for jumping into the sales challenge later on).

As I turned the corner, I saw a fancy Lebanese restaurant.

“No way they’d give me 10% off a shawarma”, I thought.

I walked nervously up to the counter, picked out the lamb kofta, and

Asked for 10% off again.

This time… rejected.

A grey-haired lady shook her head disapprovingly as I glanced beside me.

Regardless, the challenge was officially conquered.

I felt relieved and empowered.

It was time to go home and prepare for the next Million Dollar Weekend challenge.

Oh, and enjoy my lamb shawarma.
